Penny Waha is a native of Bangkok, Thailand.  She is retired from the U.S. Department of Defense.  She traveled throughout Asia and the United States for her job.  Her last assignment was here, and she decided to make Merced her home in 1987. 

After retiring she returned to Merced College to pursue art studies, leading to fulfill her childhood dreams of becoming a professional artist.  She utilizes her experience in Asia as an inspiration and fondly refers to her style as “East meets West.”

Penny has been with the Arbor Gallery since 2006.  She works in all media; however she loves watercolor for flower painting to create softness and smoothness and pastel to create vibrant colors show off easier.   Some customers call her the flower lady.  She enjoys learning new techniques and attend many workshops with well-known artists.

She also feels her art represents her on a personal level to express her inside and “healing to the soul”.
