Private lessons – Photography
Leave auto mode behind and improve your artistry and creativity with private lessons in photography. Arbor Gallery artist and professional fine art photographer Denice Loria Woyski offers two series of private lessons and 1-hour a la carte lessons:
Series 1: The Camera Demystified
Become camera savvy, leave auto mode behind
- Are you intimidated by the technology soup on the back of your camera? Take a guided deep dive into all those buttons, menus and functions. Learn what, where, when and why but most importantly, how to use them.
- Are you struggling with f/stops, shutter speed and ISO? We will unravel the relationships of the exposure triangle so you can nail the exposure in every photo, every time, even the ones that fool the meter in your camera.
- Do you instinctively know which aperture or shutter speed you should use to create the image you envision? We’ll work on choosing the creatively correct apertures and shutter speeds to isolate, tell a story, freeze action and imply motion.
- We’ll take the guesswork out of choosing which lens to use by exploring all the lenses in your bag and learn how each one sees and when to choose it.
- Each week you’ll have an opportunity to submit images for analysis and feedback.
- One 60-minute lesson per week for six consecutive weeks.
- $300 total per Series (cost can be shared by two people!)
Series 2: The Artist’s Eye
Boost your artistry and creativity
- Do you see beyond the obvious? Do you see shapes, pattern, line, texture? Explore the elements of art and how to incorporate them into your compositions and you’ll never again see the world around you the same.
- You might already know the “rules” of composition. But do you know when to break them? How to add tension and drama to your compositions? We’ll explore a variety of compositional elements that punch up the excitement in your images.
- All light is good light, and you’ll learn how to see the light and shadow and how to use it artistically in your photographs regardless of time of day or the weather.
- What’s your favorite genre? Landscapes? Street Photography? Macro? We’ll work on identifying what images thrill you the most and how to cultivate your own unique voice and style.
- Each week you’ll have an opportunity to submit images for analysis and feedback.
- One 60-minute lesson per week for six consecutive weeks.
- $300 total per Series (cost can be shared by two people!)
Single Lessons
A La Carte
- $60/hour
- 1 hour minimum
- Explore any single topic from Series 1 or Series 2
- Post-processing in Lightroom or Photoshop via Zoom
- Image analysis and feedback, in-person or via Zoom
- 1 teacher, 2 students max
The Particulars
- 1 teacher, 2 students max – must be similar age range (if under 18 yrs old)/skill range if sharing a series or a lesson
- Day/time based on the request of student(s)
- All ages and experience levels are welcome
- Digital cameras only
- Forms of payment accepted: cash/credit/debit/check
